Made-to-Measure Mattresses, Cut to Any Shape or Size
No two awkward beds are the same. An antique frame was built to its own generous proportions; a four-poster or sleigh bed loses length to a footboard; a boxed-in alcove, a sloping attic room or a bay window leaves only a shape a rectangle will never fill; a round bed, a corner day-bed or a built-in cabin berth follows a curve or a cut no standard size can match. Settle for the nearest ‘close enough’ mattress and you’re left with gaps at the edges, an overhang at the foot, or a real fight to carry it up the stairs — so every mattress we make is cut to your bed’s own dimensions and its actual shape.
Making mattresses to measure is what we’ve done in Britain for more than 40 years, one at a time, in any size and any shape you can draw. How do I measure my bed for a made-to-measure mattress?
Take the full length and the widest point of the base, then note anything that isn’t a straight line — a curve, a cut or angled corner, a taper or a bay. For a round bed, the diameter is all we need. If the shape is genuinely unusual, cut a paper or cardboard template and send it in with your order and we’ll follow it to the millimetre.
How does the shape tool work?
Pick the outline that matches your bed, type in your figures, then choose the depth, firmness and filling — the price for your exact mattress appears there and then, with no sign-up needed. Can you make a round or curved mattress?
Yes — round, oval and curved mattresses are cut to any diameter or radius. Tell us the measurement across the widest point, or send a template for a part-curve, and we’ll shape it to sit cleanly inside the frame with no gap to catch a sheet.
Can you cut corners or angles to fit an alcove or antique frame?
That’s our everyday work. Send the corner measurement or a template and we’ll shape the mattress to match, so it beds flush against every wall — no draughty gap, no corner left proud, and no trimming a good mattress with a bread knife to make it fit.
What sizes can you make?
Any size at all. We’re not tied to standard UK sizes, so extra-long, extra-wide, narrow single, oversized super king and every odd figure in between are made to the exact centimetres you give us — the mattress fits the bed, rather than the bed having to suit the mattress.
What depth should I choose?
It depends on the bed and its base. A standard frame or divan usually carries a 15–25cm mattress comfortably; a low platform, a day-bed or a bed under a sloping ceiling is often better with something trimmer. If you’re not sure, tell us the bed and we’ll point you to the right depth.
Are your mattresses fire-safety certified?
Yes — every mattress we build is certified to BS 7177, the British Standard for the fire resistance of mattresses, at the low-hazard level required for home use. That certification is included on every order at no extra cost.
How long does it take, and how is it delivered?
Because each mattress is cut to order, we’ll confirm your make-and-delivery date when you place the order rather than quote a fixed figure here. It ships vacuum-rolled in a box, free anywhere in mainland UK, ready to unpack and let breathe back into shape.
How much does a made-to-measure mattress cost?
The price follows the size, the depth, the filling and how much shaping is involved — a plain rectangle is the most economical, a round bed or a multi-cut alcove a little more. Rather than guess, use the tool above: it prices your exact specification on the spot, before you commit a penny.
Can you make mattresses for hotels, holiday lets or the hospitality trade?
Yes — as well as the domestic build, we make mattresses to the contract fire standard for commercial lets. That’s BS 7177 at medium-hazard level, which adds the Crib 5 (BS 5852 Ignition Source 5) test required in hotels, guest houses, B&Bs, holiday cottages and student accommodation. Tell us it’s for a let and we’ll build and certify it to the right level for the setting.
